| Latest Review (from Proteus, the Journal of Delaware Valley Mensa) ONCE UPON A FULL MOON NIGHT ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN Our very own Jay Dunner and his wife Annette have formed eleven finely crafted facts of love. Not love as an ideal; they present love as relation. The wistful "I've had it once..." of "Once Upon a Full Moon Night;" the caustic "damned if you're going to do this to me" of "Straitjacket of Love;" the hopeful "can I get it?..." of "Whenever," to name a few. Although they are the sole artists, Jay has produced a collection of songs full and rich with instrumentation. One of my favorites is the flute in "Whenever" -- an upbeat tune that is impossible to listen to without moving along with it. their voices work together to create harmonies that range from delicate blends to harsh counterpoints. A chorus that always is crisp and clean. It is as if they are one mind with two voices. The first piece that grabbed my ear was the chorus of "Angel in the Snow." This is by far the prettiest piece of the CD, a "I-can't-believe-this-could-have-happened-to-me" tale. This song now runs through my head at odd moments. Strangely enough, the next cut that I found myself humming was "Straitjacket of Love." This song is as far away from "Angel in the Snow" as you can get -- on all levels. They not only give us quality instrumentation, but offer lyrics that stand on their own merits -- poetry full of wonderful turns of phrase -- "poets of the time we spent in each other's eyes;" "a waltzing clown;" "between a handshake and a heartbeat..." I could go on, but I'm not. Go get the CD. -- Steve Polsz, Editor |
